Guide to DINI and IG migration
Migration guide for the transition to HARMONIE DINI and IG forecast models
As announced late March 2024 new HARMONIE DINI and IG weather forecast models are available due to the commissioning of a new supercomputer.
This means that the old HARMONIE IGB and NEA weather forecast models covering North Europe and Faroe Islands (NEA) and Greenland and Iceland (IGB) in a 2,5 km grid resolution will be replaced in near future with the new DINI (Denmark-Ireland-Netherlands-Iceland) and IG (Iceland-Greenland), which contain forecasts in a 2 km grid resolution.
Potentially this means that you, as a user/developer of our models, must change your usage of the following OpenData api's
Migrate from OLD → NEW Forecast data STAC API and Forecast EDR API
New collection names must be used for the following api's:
- The forecast data STAC api: https://dmigw.govcloud.dk/v1/forecastdata/collection/<collection name>
- The forecast data EDR api: https://dmigw.govcloud.dk/v1/forecastedr/collection/<collection name>
Other changes
- The number of time steps in the model runs have changed from IGB: 48 or 54 steps → IG: 72 steps , from NEA: 54 steps → DINI: 60 steps
- The model area for DINI, the green area, is not the same as it was for NEA, the red area
E.g. northern Scandinavia is not covered by DINI, but most of Italy is
(In contrast, the new IG area covers the same as the IGB area and is even slightly bigger)
- The projection will change from rotated lat/lon to a Lambert projection.
- Therefore the grids are located different in DINI and IG as opposed to NEA and IGB due the smaller size and consequently the bigger number and positioning of the new cells (green dot=DINI, red dot=NEA in the picture below)
- Parameter names have changed for DINI and IG. There is no translation table for this. We apologize for the inconvenience.
- The DINI and IG models have 90 model layers that describe the atmosphere as opposed to 65 layers in the NEA and IGB models
- The relationship between the old NEA with 65 layers and the new DINI with 90 layers is the following, e.g. that the old level 3 corresponds to the new level 4:
