EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Ozone and Atmospheric chemistry Monitoring (O3SAF)

The purpose of the O3SAF is to produce near real-time and off line products and validation services.  O3SAF is hosted by Finish Meteorological Institute (FMI) and besides DMI the members come from Netherland (KMNI, KMI), Germany (DLR, DWD), Greece (LAP, HNMS), France (M-F).

Near real-time products include total ozone column and profiles and UV clear-sky fields. Off-line products are total column of ozone, NO2 and BrO, ozone profiles, aerosol index and optical depth and UV-fields including cloudiness. The products will be validated against ground based and baloon born measurements.

DMI has been a participant  in the O3SAF since  it was initiated in 1997 and has developed the Near Real Time UV Index processor  (NRTUV). The NRTUV receives  ozone forecast on a global scale (assimilated GOME-2 data) and calculates within one hour after receival  of ozone data the global clear sky UV index forecast which is disseminated to the end-users.
