Climate Change Adaptation

Climate model projections predict higher temperatures, more weather extremes and significantly higher risk of erosion and flooding in Denmark. Careful planning is required, as future climatic conditions will necessitate strengthening of coast lines, infrastructure, buildings and Preparedness.

The Information Centre for Climate Change Adaptation is the central institution in Denmark for advice and information on climate change adaptation.

The centre runs its own web portal where the latest research results and climate change adaptation information can be found.

Central activities of the Information Centre for Climate Change Adaptation

The centre's main responsibilities include:

• carrying out initiatives agreed in the Coordination Forum;
• realizing the communication strategy;
• communicating the government's strategy for adaptation to climate change;
• communicating general knowledge about adaptation to climate change;
• communicating general results from research in climate change adaptation;
• operating a climate change adaptation web portal;
• knowledge gathering and communication via participation in national and international meetings;
• reporting Danish climate change adaptation efforts internationally; and
• serving as the secretariat for the Coordination Forum for Climate Change Adaptation.

A multifaceted information platform

One of the centre's main duties is to communicate information about climate change adaptation. The information centre's climate change adaptation portal is where citizens, authorities, specialists and businesses can find updated knowledge about climate change adaptation.

The portal is frequently updated and provides information and tools based on authoritative, quality-assured climate data. This includes practical advice on how to reduce vulnerability of buildings and infrastructure to the effects of future climate change, information about the latest climate change adaptation research, and links to climate data, oceanographic data, groundwater data and geodata.

The portal also functions as a platform for knowledge sharing where different players share their experience via case studies etc.
