DMI provides society with in-depth climate information and endeavor to deliver the best possible advice on climate and climate change. We develop new methods for application of satelitte data for weather and climate mornitoring.

We participate in research programmes, projects, and scientific collaboration in Denmark and internationally and direct most of our capacity towards joint research initiatives to tackle the key challenges in climate science and prediction.

Primary fields of work

The DMI is the central institution in Denmark for data storage, research, information, and decision support related to climate change and we:

• Estimate future climatic changes by developing global and regional climate model projections and analysing climate variability and changes in the past.
• Monitor and study the climatic processes in the Arctic and the mass balance of the Greenland ice sheet and project the future development.
• Monitor and study changes in the ozone layer, the UV radiation level and research into the physical processes relevant for changes of the ozone layer and the future climate.
• Cooperate with and develop climate change impact related projects in developing countries.
• Host a data base for international regional climate model data.
• Identify the impacts of future climate change in Denmark and advice society on climate change adaptation through the Information Centre for Climate Change Adaptation.
• Communicate scientific information about short- and long-term climatic changes in Denmark, Greenland the Faroe Islands and other regions around the world.
• Participate in and contribute to the IPCC's work and participate in other national and international climate related cooperation initiatives.
• Develop methods and operate a processing system for radio occultation data for NWP and climate.

We work closely together with a wide range of partners and organisations to strengthen our climate science and services, and consider research collaboration essential for developing our predictive capability. Communicating climate information

The DMI is very active in its outreach activities. We aim to develop our understanding of the climatic development in the 21st century through dedicated research activities and participation in national and international climate research programmes, projects and collaboration.

We have built a network of climate research relationships with partners in- and outside of Denmark through which we align our research and knowledge-sharing efforts and initiatives.

Communication efforts are highly prioritized at the DMI and we present climate information online through dmi.dk.

Further, we publish books, scientific papers, news and articles in different media and arrange various presentations on our premises and elsewhere regularly.

International climate cooperation

The Danish Climate Centre at DMI participates intensively in the international climate cooperation. We have been actively participating in the work of the IPCC since its establishment in 1988.

We act as Danish contact to the IPCC (IPCC Focal Point), develop scenario data for the IPCC databases, participate in the preparation of IPCC reports and lead the Danish delegation at IPCC meetings.
