The climate data archives
Our archives have several daily visitors and are accessed by many different types of users; from researchers studying specific hydrological, wave, storm, or other effect models that need data on e.g. temperature, precipitation or radiation levels - to officials from provincial towns, municipalities and counties from all around Europe, that access the database for information about the future climatic development in their geographical area.

The PRUDENCE initiative
The essence of the PRUDENCE project was to compile RCM data from different institutions using the same model area, so as to minimize uncertainties and to facilitate data comparison.

The database contains 20 different fields and generated 500GB of data, which are now contained within and accessible through the DKC archives.

ENSEMBLES data
When PRUDENCE ended in 2004, the 5-year long project ENSEMBLES was initiated with twice as high resolution and an uninterrupted projection period of 150 years. Integration areas were matched exactly as far as possible. More than 100 fields were included in the simulations that yielded over 22TB of data, which are also stored in and accessible through our archives.

The CORDEX project
The CORDEX project will include data from regions covering the entire globe and will become an even more comprehensive compilation of climate projection data. These data will also be made accessible from our archives as they become available. CORDEX is not limited to Europe, and many more different simulations are expected than in the previous projects. A rough estimate of the expected data volume is 100-200TB.
